Tobacco is a preventable cause of morbidity and mortality across the globe. Low and middle income countries (LMICs) are the most severely affected. The shisha is used to smoke specially made tobacco by heating the tobacco indirectly, usually with burning charcoal or embers, filtering the smoke through a bowl of water (sometimes mixed with other liquids such as wine) and then drawn to a mouthpiece through a rubber hose. Shisha has been shown to be associated with a wide range of detrimental health effects and smoking shisha is associated with three main detrimental health effects: CV damage, infection and cancer formation.
