Modern Science and Technology, a Challenge to Human Self-understanding, is an excellent reflection on the reality of modern technology and its reconstituting effects on the modern subject. Most literature on modern technology is basically on its management and benefits. The author of this book makes a bold move to give a philosophical insight into the nature of modern technology. He appropriates Heidegger's philosophy of technology, while making an intriguing claim that even though modern technologies influence almost every aspect of our daily existence to the point of reducing it to to their calculative resource-oriented logic, we continue to function with relatively uninformed conceptions of their ontological impact on us. Instrumental account of technology is insufficient. The author emphasizes on the fundamental importance of a continued philosophical reflection on technology, with a call to rethink our regard to it, while offering a theoretical framework of understanding modern technology, adhering to a call to a technological phenomenology.
